CITY OF COLDWATER
Citizen Of The Year

Several years ago, the mayor and members of the Coldwater City Council decided to recognize someone each year for their for that individual’s exceptional work to make Coldwater a better place to live.

For their varied contributions of time and effort, the list of past recipients of the "Citizen of the Year" includes Penny Bruckner, Bob and Sandy Bartkoski, Jack Sooter, Loren Graff, TruDee Little, Debi Sherman and Beverly Clark, Dr. Chandini Sharma, and Lisa Gales.

Coldwater's 2007 Citizen of the Year has no one to blame but himself!  Several years ago, while serving as mayor of Coldwater, he was the man responsible for starting the annual presentation of a Citizen of the Year award.

Roy Hoffman, the 2007 Citizen of the Year, served four years on the city council, followed by nine years as mayor.  He has been active in the Coldwater Chamber of Commerce, the local fire department and rescue squad, serves on the Chief Theatre board, is an active member of the Coldwater Country Club, the local Lion's Club, and he rides with the Patriot Guard.  He has also been a frequent volunteer for numerous church, civic club, and community activities.

Born in 1955 in Salina, KS, he is the son of Roger and Karen Douglas-Hoffman, who moved back to the family farm in Comanche County in the early 1960s, where his father and stepmother Sandy still reside.  He attended school in Coldwater, graduating from Coldwater High School in 1974.  He went on to receive his bachelors of fine arts degree from Emporia State University.

He married Gina Johnson in 1990, and she teaches 3-5 year olds with special needs at South Central Elementary School.  They are members of the Coldwater United Methodist Church, and have two children, Curtis, 21 and Jaci, 14.
